ACUPUNCTURE

And what exactly is this “magic” of acupuncture? Essentially acupuncture works by freeing the circulation of Qi or vital energy through the body to achieve balance and harmony. In Chinese Medicine, it is said that pain and sickness come up as a result of blockages in the body. Acupuncture unblocks the stuck places that cause pain and sickness. This allows the body’s natural self-healing potential to be unleashed.

My acupuncture practice is located in North Portland on Mississippi Avenue at Skidmore Street in a gorgeous historic Victorian Portland building. Book your acupuncture session in Portland, Oregon, now!

Acupuncture is a safe and effective therapy that has been in continuous use for thousands of years. The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine (Huang Di Nei Jing), in which acupuncture is first documented, is about 2200 years old. This classic book outlines the various uses for acupuncture therapy, which range from the treatment of common colds to chronic pain to paralysis and even strokes. Today acupuncture’s applications are even more varied. For a list of conditions treated click here.

Acupuncture therapy is typically an hour long session. Following an initial intake and assessment, a patient lies down to relax on a massage table and receives acupuncture needles in specific places which are chosen based on the patients’ specific condition and constitution. These needles are extremely thin (about the width of a human hair) and are single-use as well as sterile. The patient rests for about 15 minutes while the acupuncture needles do their magic.
